Samurai VS Knights

Were the Similarities between Samurai and Knights Greater than the Differences?
Samurai are fierce warriors from Japan. Knights are strong fighters from Europe. Samurai and knights have many similarities and differences. Clarified by the documents provided, I believe that samurai and knights shared more similarities than differences. 

To begin with, document E shows Samurai and Knights shared the same code of honor. In the document it states, “The samurai confines himself to practicing the way; should there be someone... who transgresses [does wrong] against these moral principles, the samurai summarily punishes him and thus upholds proper moral principles in the land...” Another part of the same document states, “With great ceremony each [knight] took the vows of true knighthood, solemnly promising to do no wicked deed, to be loyal to the King, to give mercy to those asking it, always to be courteous and helpful to ladies, and to fight in no wrongful quarrel for worldly gain, upon pain of death or forfeiture [loss] of knighthood and King Arthur’s favor.” This proves that they are more similar because, both of them have a code of honor. Samurai follow Bushido. The way of sacrificing for their lord. Knights follow Chivalry. The way of fighting for their lord and showing mercy towards others. Next Document C supports the idea that samurai and knights both mastered in poetry. The document states, “The rigorous training (of samurai)… began in childhood… School was a unique combination of physical training…poetry and spiritual discipline.” Another part states, “A knight’s training, especially in 12th-century France, produced knights who were skilled poets. Called troubadour because they traveled the country, a number of French knights made their living reciting poetry to an audience.” This tells me that they are more alike because both knights and samurai learned poetry. Lastly document A supports the fact that samurai and knights both fought for rewards. It states, “Samurai warriors who owed loyalty and military service to daimyos for land or regular payment.” Another part states, “Knights warriors who owed loyalty and military service to lord for land.” This means that they were similar because both knights and samurai fought for their lords. In return they received land. 

In conclusion, samurai and knights do have many similarities and differences. However, I believe that the similarities outweigh the differences, as proven by documents, E, C, A.

   John A. Fisher is a concerned parent. He believes that garden education is vital to the future of children.  His article, "Growing the Kinder-Garden" argues that schools should teach garden education. In order to convince his audience, Fisher instills a feeling of guilt, appeals to logos, and uses collective pronouns.      First of all, Fisher instills a feeling of guilt into his audience. He talks about how children in today's society barely know about gardening. He provides a strong point stating that, "if you have a young child, ask him or her where food comes from. Don't be surprised if the answer you get is 'From the store!'" This shows that most children don't know where food truly comes from. They are so isolated from the real world of farming, they think that food comes from the stores. In reality, all food comes from farms and gardens. Kids these days are becoming obese.      If a glass is filled halfway, is the glass half-full or half-empty? This is a commonly asked question to test a person's outlook. Although both choices are correct, each represents a different outlook. If they say it's half full then they are most likely a positive person.
