This battle started when Ramesses II went on a campaign to capture land. The Hittites had his army near Kadesh defending his territory. When he had heard Ramesses II was going on campaign, he tricked or mislead Ramesses II that their army was somewhere far away from Kadesh. Since Ramesses II fell for the trick, he seized his chance to try and capture Kadesh. When Ramesses II arrived at Kadesh the army was waiting for Ramesses II. Then they fought. Ramesses II lost, and captured no land. But still claimed victory. But eventually Ramesses II got tired of all these battles. So to settle the conflicts between the Hittites empire and the Egyptian empire, they made a peace treaty.
