Should we charge additional Carbon Taxes for gasoline?

INTRO
The temperature is higher than ever. Glaciers are melting. Oceans levels are rising. Eventually the earth will be inhabitable. This is because we are burning too much fossil fuels. One of the major fuels is gasoline. We waste gasoline everyday on the streets. We have to reduce the use of gasoline. I believe the simplest way to do this is by charging additional carbon taxes on gas. We should charge additional carbon tax gas for the following reasons.

BODY

First of all, people will drive less. They will plan on how to save their fuel. For example, a person might move close ti his/her work place. Thus they can bike or walk to work.

Second of all, people might use alternative methods of transportation. These alternatives are like bus, train, etc. For example, there are 50 people who need to go to work. Then there will be 50 cars driving to work. Yet, those 50 people could to all go in one bus. Each car weighs about eight hundred pounds. Each person weighs about 150. 50 cars would be about  47500 pounds. A bus is about 8000 pounds. So if 50 people on a bus would be about 15500. The bus weighs much less. Thus it will be cheaper and more "efficient." Then people will chose to go on a bus instead of car.

Lastly, people will use alternative sources energies. These alternative sources energies could be things like installing a solar roof. They could use this energy source to do things like charge their car, or run the house, etc.

COUNTER ARGUMENT

Charging carbon taxes on gas also has a few drawbacks. Such as commodities and food would become more expensive. Producers will have to pay more to ship their items to the consumers. For example farmers will have to ship their foods to the market, using lots of money for gas. Thus increasing food prices. Also, factories have to use gasoline to ship and produce their goods. Thus increasing commodities prices.
Poor people are already struggling to buy food and commodities. If we charge carbon tax, the prices will increase. The poor wont have the additional money to afford the goods. Some of these people may go homeless. They may even go hungry.

I believe this problem can be solved. Since we will have excess tax, we can give the poor, tax breaks. I think this will be even better for the poor!

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, we should charge additional carbon tax gas. If we do, people will try to drive less. People will try to use alternative methods of transportation. People will also use alternative energy. Thus, the use of gasoline will decrease. Although the poor might struggle to buy goods, we can give the poor tax breaks. Thus they wont have to pay as much money. Then with gasoline reduced, the planet will be able to go on for thousands of years.
