Sherlock Holmes

The story begins with a man is looking to share a room in the city where he meets detective Sherlock Holmes. One day Holmes gets a letter about someone being murdered. He went to the specified address where he met two detectives Lestrade and Gregson. As Holmes entered the room he saw many bloodstains, a dead man and a hat. By using all the clues Sherlock concluded how the murderer must looks like. Sherlock found so much blood all around, but couldn't finds any wound on the dead man. There was nothing to trace the killer, but a ring under the dead man and a hat. This could be murderer's ring and hat. So Sherlock decided to try to lure that person by sending an advertisement about that lost ring without disclosing the information of the murder. Soon the advertisement brought an old woman who claimed the ring. So Holmes gave her a fake ring to test her. He followed her in case she might have something to do with the murder. Holmes saw old lady's daughter with son-in-law. The son-in-law could have been a suspect considering he snatched the ring from his mother-in-law. So Holmes asked Gregson to investigate that son-in-law.  A few days later Gregson told Holmes that the old woman's son-in-law was gone from about 12 pm to 4 am on the day of the murder . Gregson also discovered from the hat shop that the hat they had found in the murder scene, was bought by a man named Joesph who's name was the same as the old lady's son-in-law. He got the phone number of that man too. Then, Holmes concluded that Joesph was the murderer. Holmes knew that Joesph was a taxi man. So Holmes called Joesph to see if Joesph would take him for a ride. Joesph accepted. When Joesph came in a cab,  he and his friends quickly captured him.

WHAT IMPRESSED YOU IN THIS STORY

  • The way Sherlock Holmes figured out how the murderer looks like using just 3 clues, the bloodstains, horse tracks, and the writing on the wall.
  • The vocabulary of the book was really high and taught me many new words.
  • I liked the smart plot where murderer to kill a man with poison instead of a gun. So police and detectives wouldn't know which type of gun he used. Or else it would have been easier for Holmes to track him down, by checking everyone gun receipt.
