Should students be allowed to bring cell phones to school or not

     Should students be allowed to bring cell phones to school or not? I believe that students should be allowed to bring cell phones to school. I believe students should be allowed to bring cellphones to school. Favored arguments are:  use for resolving issues, use in case of emergencies, and for parents tracking students. Unfavored arguments are: use of cellphones can be used for cheating in class and will distract students.

     First of all, students can call their parents for resolving issues. A parent can coordinate with their children through their phone. For example the parent may be late for picking his/her child up, or the child may want to stay at his friends house for a longer time, or the child may need to go to an after-school class.   

     Secondly, students can use their phones in case of emergencies. After school if a bad guy is chasing you on the way home, you can call 911. If you are lost while walking home you can call parents for directions.

     Lastly, there is an app to track someone. This way parents can locate their child through their phones. They can make sure the child is safe. As a result the child's parents can be in peace.
 
     The first counter-argument is that students can use their cell phones to cheat in class. For example, they will get answers from the internet through their phone. This can be addressed by evolving the exam to make it based on investigation. The less you know, the more internet search you will have to do in exam time. This will slow you down and you will answer fewer questions.

     Another argument is that students can be distracted by phones. For example, students can text each other through their phone during class time. To deal with this, teachers can collect all phones and keep them during class periods.

     In conclusion, I believe the benefits of a student having a phone at school outweigh the disadvantages of a students having a phone at school. The problems of a student having a phone at school are manageable by evolving the exams and teachers keeping phones until the end of the day. This is why I think students should be allowed to have phones at school.
